June 8, 2020
Well yeah, I think anyone back in April of 2020 might have done the same thing with the world practically coming to an end right. With this global pandemic, there were so many questions and so many uncertainties. But there are also options.
I’m so thankful that Gabby and Austin decided to go with option B. I believe we were calling it a micro wedding back in the Spring. We really liked to create new terms during this time to feel like it was normal when this was the farthest thing from it.
They bumped the date of their wedding up to avoid dealing with new rules, and restrictions like having gatherings of six people during the 2-week freeze, and just downsized to their immediate family and friends and got married in the backyard of his parent’s house. And let me tell you, it was one of the most stunning backyard weddings ever. And it was the perfect size to handle all of the guests. Everyone felt safe, they opened gifts with their guests being there, which is not a common thing to do at weddings because you are bouncing back-and-forth between dancing and chatting. So this space allowed them to really spend a substantial amount of time with each one of the guests at their wedding. It was beautiful. I made sure that they would have the first dance because they still deserve to have some normalness of a regular wedding day.
Their day was full of prayer, intimacy, and so much love. They were the first wedding of my 2020 season, and it left me with lots of hope for what wedding days could look like even when there’s so much uncertainty.
