Would you believe me if I told you that I legitimately texted her sister that morning in between classes saying I needed a couple to shoot that evening and within a few hours we had this EPIC shoot planned and coordinated for myself and 8 other photographers who wanted to get the full Bend effect (aka these stunning mountains) in their portfolio?! Thank you to Victoria Carlson for being an absolute gem and sending us some ideas of where to go that was different than what you are seeing all over IG. 

One thing I cannot stress enough is RELATIONSHIPS!! If you are starting out in photography and feel like you “cannot book anything” then start reaching out to people and do some shooting for free. Honestly, those end up being my favorite shoots because the pressure is off and you are free to create, try something new and style your couple to fit what your vision is. Thankfully, Ash and Tyson embody the “Bend couple” so they just brought their closet and I helped guide them on how to style their outfits to get these looks!

Also, isn’t this bouquet BEAUTIFUL?! Yeah, we thought so too when we were shooting at Wedventure’s workshop, so I asked my sweet friend Amy with Brier and Ivy if we could use it again that evening for this and she said, heck yes!! See friends, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! You will be so surprised with what magic can be created when you do so and build friendships that last beyond the day! It was Amy’s kindness and obvious talent that put her on my preferred vendors’ list because I believe in her heart and gift! & the friendship I have created with Christina and Ashley make me want to do a shoot with them every single time I am in Bend.

One last thing to remember, be the “ideal photographer” rather than look for your “ideal client.” Because chances are you will attract your kind of people (aka the whole Evert family) when you can relate to them, shoot in elements that they vibe with best and the rest falls into place from there!

If you want more of something in your portfolio, make it happen! Don’t let the opportunity wash away and leave yourself thinking: “what if…”
